Beach vacations are the perfect destination for families seeking an exciting place for family fun. If you are seeking information on beach vacations, you need to know where to look. There are many free ways to find out about beach vacations without the expense of a travel agent.

The first thing to do when searching for information on beach vacations is to do an internet search.
  • Pull up an internet search engine on your computer, such as Google or Yahoo.

  • Type “beach vacations” and then the name of the city or state you are interested in visiting into the search box. If you know a specific beach name, type it in, if not, consider just typing in the name of a state you would like to visit.

  • Click “search” and the search engine will show you websites regarding the beach vacations information you typed in. The links may include city and state government things to do pages, travel agency pages, hotel pages, review pages, and family pages. These pages will give you plenty of information on beaches and hotels in the area.

  • If you need a map, check Yahoo Maps, MapQuest, or Google Maps. Enter the city and state you are interested in. The website will bring up a map of the location. Google Earth will allow you to see an overhead satellite image of the beach you want to visit. You should even be able to see the beach house, condominium, or hotel.

Some things to look for when researching beach vacations include:
  • How close will you be to the beach? You need to know if you can walk to the beach or if you will need to drive. Can you see the beach from your rental? Beach vacations are no fun if you a nowhere near the beach.

  • How will you access the beach? If you must drive to the beach, how far is the walk from the parking lot? This is a major beach vacations question for those with small children or for people who are handicapped.

  • Is there a drop-off spot where you can unload your beach gear before parking your car? If the walk from the parking lot is far from the beach, you might have to make several trips if you have lots of beach gear.

  • Is there plenty of parking at the beach and at your rental? In addition, make sure there is an actual parking lot and you will not have to park on the street.

  • How big is the beach? Is it a private beach or is it surrounded by private beaches? You want to know how much beach you have access to for walks, etc.

  • Do lifeguards protect the beaches? If so, are there lifeguard towers? Always swim in areas near lifeguards, especially with children.
